This concrete gravity dam was constructed on the upper Kando River in eastern Shimane Prefecture for the purposes of flood control, river environment protection, industrial water and power generation. It is the first midsize or larger dam in Japan to apply the free overflow method for the entire crest length and the world’s first to adopt consecutive siphon water intake facilities.
