Foundation fixing ceremony for Kawakami Dam Construction

The cornerstone fixing ceremony for the construction of the Kawakami Dam was held on Sunday, December 15, 2019. The cornerstone laying ceremony is a ceremony to pray for the safety of the construction work and the long-term security of the dam.
The ceremony was preceded by a safety ceremony (organized by the Obayashi JV), at which the cornerstone was laid to rest by the shinto priest of Omura Shrine, and the dedication of a sacred skewer by Obayashi Vice President Takehito Sato and other construction workers.
About 300 guests attended the cornerstone fixing ceremony hosted by the Japan Water Agency. After an address by Mr. Kanao, President of JWA, and congratulatory speeches by the guests, the cornerstone was fixed by officials of JWA and Obayashi Corporation JV. The cornerstone fixing ceremony consisted of a ceremony of "Chintei", "Imigote", and "Imitsuchi", followed by a ceremony of "Mainou". Concrete was transported and poured using the first tower crane operated automaticallyOpen in new window in Japan, and the foundation stone was buried. Concrete compaction was also performed automatically using unmanned backhoe which has vibrator and concrete compaction determination technology Open in new window .The cornerstone fixing ceremony ended without a hitch with all the attendees singing three chants and opening a kusudama (paper ball).

Obayashi Corporation will continue to construct the Kawakami Dam safely and with high quality by utilizing the ODICT® dam information construction technology.

Project reports and speeches were displayed with subtitles on a large monitor in the venue using the latest network system.

6 Ceremony of “Chintei”
A ceremony to place mortar into the foundation of the cornerstone. It is meant to pave the way for the construction to proceed.

7 Ceremony of “Imigote”
This is performed to pave the way for the construction work to proceed.

8 The ritual of the “Imitsuchi”
This ceremony is meant to further strengthen the path of the construction work that has been set by the ceremony of Chintei and leveled by the ceremony of Imigote.

A memorial stone with children's wishes written on it is buried together with the foundation stone.
