Kawakami Dam Construction Completion Ceremony for Concrete Placing of Embankment

The concrete pouring for the embankment of the Kawakami Dam was completed, and a ceremony was held on April 20, 2021 (Tuesday).
After an opening address by Mr. Tsukui, Director of the Kawakami Dam Construction Office of the Japan Water Agency, concrete was transported to the site at the signal of Mr. Tomi, Director of the Construction Division, and the final concrete pouring was completed when the supervising engineer of Obayashi Corporation's Kawakami Dam JV signalled for the concrete to be placed. Singing of three chants were sung by Mr. Matsumura, Deputy Director of Kawakami Dam Construction Station, Japan Water Agency.
At the completion ceremony, the tower crane autonomous operation system automatically transported the concrete. This system utilized the Digital Twin, which reproduces information from various sensors attached to the tower crane and the site in real time on a digital space. When the concrete loading and placing locations are specified in the digital space, AI finds the optimal transportation route and performs automatic operation.
The Kawakami Dam, by incorporating this new technology, placed approximately 450,000 m³ of concrete in a short period of 19 months.
