O-NES TOWER Shortlisted for the Inaugural RIBA Asia Pacific Awards

Sustainability

O‑NES TOWER, developed in Bangkok, Thailand, by Thai Obayashi, an Obayashi Group company, has been shortlisted in the Mixed Use category of the RIBA Asia Pacific Awards, which honors architecture in the Asia Pacific region and is organized by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

RIBA was established in 1834 and is an internationally authoritative architectural organization that, on behalf of the British monarch, awards the Royal Gold Medal to honor contributions to architectural culture in the UK and internationally. The RIBA Asia Pacific Awards were newly established in 2025 as an international award program recognizing outstanding architecture in the Asia Pacific region from perspectives such as innovation and social impact. The awards comprise ten categories, including Sustainability and Resilience, Design for Living, and Future Projects. In the Mixed Use category, projects that integrate multiple uses into a single building or development and contribute to the vibrancy and sustainability of the urban environment are recognized. For this inaugural edition, a total of 63 projects were selected for the shortlist across all categories.

O‑NES TOWER

The approach leading to the entrance incorporates green space covering approximately 50% of the site, creating an open space for city residents

O-NES TOWER is a multi-tenant, large-scale office building located in central Bangkok, with multiple functions including offices, retail spaces, a business center, and a food court. While balancing green space with a favorable workplace environment, the building has direct access to a railway station to draw pedestrian flow and aims to provide an environment in which users can realize diverse ways of working.

In addition, to ensure the earthquake resistance of this high-rise building with five basement levels and 29 stories above ground, the project employed a steel-frame hybrid structure for the first time in Thailand, incorporating the new national seismic design standard ahead of its enforcement. Each office features a clear span of over 20 m, providing a large column-free space with a near-square floor plate. This is the first of its kind in Bangkok, which had not previously seen steel-frame high-rise construction, enabling flexible layouts.

A new Bangkok landmark directly connected to the station, showcasing Japanese-quality expertise

The Obayashi Group will continue to create new value through a wide range of projects in Japan and overseas, contributing to the realization of a prosperous and sustainable society.
