Obayashi Group CSR Procurement Policy

The Obayashi Group CSR Procurement Policy was established with the goal of realizing a sustainable society as called for in the Obayashi Basic Principles. The Basic Policy on CSR Procurement Initiatives prescribes items that Obayashi Group directors and employees need to comply with to promote CSR procurement, while the CSR Procurement Guidelines prescribe those things that the Obayashi Group expects of its suppliers in line with this policy. By building positive partnerships with our suppliers that are based on mutual trust and founded on this policy, and by working with suppliers to ensure that the CSR Procurement Guidelines are understood and take root not only at suppliers but throughout their supply chains, we can help promote CSR initiatives with all supply chains concerned with the business of the Obayashi Group.

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

The Obayashi Group will conduct our business in compliance with all national and local laws, international treaties, and societal norms.

Corporate Ethics

The Obayashi Group will maintain high ethical standards and conduct our business in compliance with fair business practice laws and regulations.

Respect for Human Rights

The Obayashi Group will conduct our business based on respect for human rights.

Safety and Health

The Obayashi Group will provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees.

Environmental Responsibility

The Obayashi Group will conduct our business in an environmentally responsible manner, including efforts to protect the environment and reduce environmental impact.

Quality

The Obayashi Group will provide products and services that meet requirements for quality.

Disaster Risk Management Systems

The Obayashi Group will establish risk management systems to be activated in response to disasters.

Information Security

The Obayashi Group will endeavor to ensure the security of personal information and proprietary corporate information.

Social Responsibility

The Obayashi Group will respect the cultures and customs in the countries and regions where we do business and will endeavor to ensure the development of a sustainable society.

CSR Procurement Guidelines

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

Operations will be conducted in compliance with all national and local laws, international treaties, and societal norms. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) ensure that their business activities respect all relevant laws that apply in the countries and regions where they do business as well as international treaties, societal norms, and contracts and promises, and that they do business with an understanding of society's needs.

Establish Corporate Ethics

High ethical standards will be maintained, and operations conducted in compliance with fair business practice laws and regulations. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) not make or receive inappropriate payments;
  • (2) not misuse their position of superiority or interfere with the business of their suppliers, competitors, and the like;
  • (3) maintain sound relationships with public officers (including de facto public officers and foreign public officers) and the like and not provide entertainment or gifts in violation of the law;
  • (4) have no relationships with anti-social forces and refuse all illegitimate demands from such forces or organizations;
  • (5) not participate in corruption of any kind, including money laundering, embezzlement, and fraud;
  • (6) not violate or misuse intellectual property rights;
  • (7) report any misconduct or activity suspected of being a legal violation or misconduct that they witness in the business of the Obayashi Group to the contact point (*1) established to stamp out misconduct;
  • (8) strive to disclose appropriate corporate information to the extent possible.

*1 The contact point is the place to report to the Obayashi Group Corporate Ethics Reporting System. This contact point accepts reports on many types of issues including human rights. Protection of whistleblowers is the highest priority in all investigations, and the contact ensures that whistleblowers do not suffer retaliation as a result of reporting.

Respect for Human Rights

Operations will be conducted based on respect for human rights. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity, age, nationality, religion, origin, disability, or physical appearance, nor engage in harassment or other activities that infringe upon human rights;
  • (2) not engage in or permit misconduct such as the use of forced labor or child labor;
  • (3) ensure equal employment opportunity, practice appropriate labor management, pay appropriate wages, and maintain and improve working environments so they are healthy and easy to work in;
  • (4) guarantee freedom of association and collective bargaining rights for employees;
  • (5) strive to understand and cooperate with the human rights due diligence (*2) performed by Obayashi Group companies.

*2 A series of processes by which an entity identifies negative impacts (risks) to human rights and works to prevent, mitigate, and cope with them.

Safety and Health

A safe and healthy workplace will be provided for all employees. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) autonomously establish, maintain, and seek to improve systems to ensure a safe and healthy workplace;
  • (2) thoroughly enhance the safety and health of customers, people in the community, and other related stakeholders;
  • (3) cooperate with Obayashi Group in safety and health related activities;
  • (4) at construction sites, establish safety and health management systems, improve autonomous safety and health management abilities through appropriate implementation and operation of Obayashi Group occupational health and safety management systems, and collaborate in accident prevention efforts.

Consideration of Environment

Operations will be conducted in an environmentally responsible manner, including efforts to protect the environment and reduce environmental impact. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) autonomously establish, maintain, and seek to improve systems to protect the environment and reduce environmental impact;
  • (2) work to ensure protection of the environment for customers and local communities;
  • (3) cooperate with Obayashi Group companies in activities to protect the environment and reduce environmental impact;
  • (4) at construction sites, establish environmental management systems, improve autonomous environmental management abilities through appropriate implementation and operation of Obayashi Group environmental management systems, and collaborate in efforts to protect the environment and reduce environmental impact.

Quality

Products and services will be provided that meet requirements for quality. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) autonomously establish, maintain, and seek to improve systems to ensure product and service quality;
  • (2) be aware of impacts that our products and services could potentially have on customers and society and work to ensure suitable quality;
  • (3) cooperate with Obayashi Group companies on product and service quality issues;
  • (4) at construction sites, establish quality control systems, improve autonomous quality control abilities through appropriate implementation and operation of Obayashi Group quality management systems, and collaborate in quality assurance efforts.

Disaster Risk Management Systems

Risk management systems will be established to be activated in response to disasters. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) autonomously establish systems to implement a business continuity plan (BCP) and respect construction timelines and deadlines;
  • (2) cooperate with Obayashi Group companies on building and maintaining systems based on their BCPs.

Information Security

Efforts will be undertaken to ensure the security of personal information and proprietary corporate information. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) implement measures to prevent information leaks such as prohibiting the use of file-sharing software, privately-owned computers, and external memory devices;
  • (2) ensure use of updated versions of anti-virus and security software;
  • (3) not permit the posting or reproduction of information concerning the business of the Obayashi Group on social media;
  • (4) not permit access to Obayashi Group company networks from other than authorized computers and ensure the proper management of IDs and passwords.

Social Responsibility

Cultures and customs in the countries and regions where we do business will be respected and efforts will be undertaken to ensure the development of a sustainable society. Our suppliers will:

  • (1) be considerate of cultures and customs in the countries and regions where they do business and practice communication with the community.

Raising and Firmly Establishing CSR Procurement Awareness at Suppliers

Our suppliers will:

  • (1) work to raise awareness by participating in Obayashi Group company trainings;
  • (2) actively participate in and cooperate with Obayashi Group company initiatives;
  • (3) give information and training internally on sections 1-9 above.
