Kumamoto Castle Keeps Restoration and Maintenance Work Project
Reborn as a symbol of recovery from the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, the main tower of Kumamoto Castle has been restored to its pre-disaster appearance. To protect the castle more robustly—and with greater flexibility—against seismic shaking, we developed the vibration-control device “Cross Damper” and the stone-wall reinforcement technology “GuriGrid.” By integrating these advanced technologies with traditional techniques, the restoration was successfully realized.
