On August 22, 2025, the awards ceremony for the 2025 IES Illumination Awards was held in California, U.S.A., and "YOKOHAMA SYMPHOSTAGE," designed and constructed by Obayashi Corporation, was selected for the "Awards of Merit" in the Illumination Award for Outdoor Lighting Design category.

Organized by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), which is known as an authority on lighting science, the IES Illumination Awards are international lighting design awards specializing in illumination design. The awards recognize expertise, creativity and originality of lighting design, and the "Awards of Merit" are presented to excellent designs worthy of admiration.

YOKOHAMA SYMPHOSTAGE

A luminous outline along the distinctively shaped roof over an open outdoor plaza welcomes visitors

This large-scale complex, completed in the Yokohama Minato Mirai area of Kanagawa, consists of offices, commercial facilities, a hotel, shops, and other tenants. It comprises a 30-story West Tower, a 16-story East Tower and the surrounding outdoor plazas , creating a new flow of people in the Minato Mirai area.Constructed as a local landmark, it was designed to serve as a hub where people can gather.

The exterior illumination of the building transitions by gradation from warm, soft incandescent lighting near the ground to white lighting on the higher levels, harmonizing with the surrounding office buildings and the sky. This distinctive lighting design was realized with careful consideration for the urban landscape.
